TMNT - Childhood Trauma

Poor new Irrilia doesn't quite know what just happened.
...and I feel like I ought to start off with an explanation here.

You see, some species of regular salamanders have a tendency to eat their babies (hence why pet owners are advised to keep the adults and the young apart). The idea of the Salamandrian race having the same issue started as an inside joke between me and my sister but then escalated into a serious head canon about Salamandrians. No matter how brutal it sounded, I also had to admit that it made things much more interesting.

And don’t worry! The baby is fine. Much thanks to dad’s genes. Turns out that an underdeveloped carapace and plastron is strong enough to protect any vital organs from mommy’s chompers. She’ll be fine. At least physically…    It’s gonna be interesting to see how this traumatic childhood experience may shape her personality.

I’m sorry if I come off as a bit cruel...   But I kinda like the idea of Raph raising Irrilia by himself on Earth in the beginning. And it makes things a little easier too… Partly because of the complications that are bound to happen when the parents live very different lives on different planets, and partly because Mona Lisa is fricking hard to draw…   This way, I don’t need to have her around that much. Sorry, girl. You look amazing, and that’s why I can’t draw you.  

Important note: I don’t really think that a Salamandrian hospital would look like this. I just didn’t have time to construct a more believable "alien" interior. But I had to come up with a Salamandrian doctor. Don’t know much about him. I just call him Wilson.  

I have a lot of head canons when it comes to Salamandrians society and biology (and how Raph's and Mona's relationship would work in my world), but I don’t wanna stretch the description by listing it all here. I might just draw it in the future.
